Connecting busy New Yorkers to volunteer opportunities - and each other

F.A.Q.

Q: I have a large group of people (company team, college group, etc.) that is looking for a one-time volunteer project. Can you create one for me?

While we do encourage members to sign up for projects with friends, we unfortunately do not have the capacity to arrange for large group volunteer events for most of our projects. Parks Revitalization is the one project that can handle large groups, and other projects may have the capacity for smaller groups (i.e., under 10 volunteers). In either case, all volunteers must sign up individually on the website.

Q: I'm under 18. Can I join?

No. All Street Project members must be 18 years or older. We suggest you find a volunteer opportunity through VolunteerMatch

Q: I'm over 18, but can I bring people younger than 18 with me when I volunteer?

No. For liability reasons, every Street Project participant must be over the age of 18.

Q: Can I volunteer with Street Project to fulfill my court-appointed community service requirements?

No. For liability reasons, our Project Leaders are not able to sign-off on court-appointed community service documentation.

Q: I work at a nonprofit and I'm looking for some enthusiastic volunteers. Can you help me?

Yes. Please contact our Director of Project Operations to see how we can partner with your organization.

Q: What kind of time commitment is required?

Street Project is flexible enough to accommodate nearly everyone's schedule. Some members commit several hours a week, while others participate only when they are not "swamped" at work. The majority of our activities meet once a month on Saturdays.

Q: Can I participate in more than one activity at a time or switch activities?

Absolutely! Street Project encourages members to explore several activities in order to find the "best fit" for them. Many members participate in more than one project at a time. Projects are spread throughout the month or year, giving volunteers a chance to try new activities.

Q: What type of volunteers does Street Project attract?

There is no "typical" Street Project participant. Our members are as diverse as New York City itself and come from all types of backgrounds, industries and professions, including finance, law, education, publishing, fashion, the arts, and architecture. We generally attract people ranging from just out of college to well into their 30's.

Q: Do I need to sign anything?

For legal purposes, Street Project requires legal documents be read and digitally signed. These will appear on the registration page when you sign up for membership.
