Delivery of Hot Meals to the Elderly
May 27, 2006Free
Volunteers hand-deliver hot, nutritious meals to homebound seniors, who look forward to these much needed meals and personal visits. Teams and individual volunteers help deliver meals from meal centers. The routes are short – usually no more than 10 to 12 stops – so there is time to stop and speak with meal recipients along the way. Volunteers must be 18 years or older. Saturdays from 10:00am – 12:30pm
Encore Senior Center, located at 239 West 49th St. between 8th Ave. and Broadway – Ground floor of St. Malachy’s Church.
Volunteers will either deliver in groups or in pairs. Upon arrival, volunteers will fill out a one-time volunteer form and will be given a brief orientation before going on deliveries. Please let us know as SOON as you know you can’t make a day you’ve committed for.
Choose your event by cause:
University Soup Kitchen
University Soup Kitchen is Street Project's longest running volunteer opportunity. Volunteers serve a wholesome, freshly made meal each Saturday in a respectful atmosphere. The kitchen provides a welcoming place of respite for guests and offers vital social services to those in need.
Kids & Teens
Helping Hands provides two opportunities: 1) With Publicolor, volunteers are paired with middle and high school students to repaint and revitalize public school buildings. Or 2) volunteers can support Change for Kids’ mission to invest in NYC public elementary schools in underserved communities.
