Hand deliver meals to home-bound seniors
September 26, 2015Free
Volunteers hand-deliver hot & cold meals to home-bound seniors who look forward to these much-needed personal visits. Paired in twos, we deliver meals on foot from Time Square’s Encore Senior Center using a hand-driven cart. The routes are short, usually no more than 10 to 15 stops. To ensure that walking doesn’t ruin your rest of the Saturday/weekend, please wear comfortable shoes & weather-appropriate clothing.
Encore Senior Center, 239 West 49th St. between 8th Avenue and Broadway (north side of the street, closer to 8th Ave). Take elevator or walk down to the basement level. Directions: N, R, Q to 49th Street / 1, C, E to 50th Street.
Street Project supplies Encore Center with a set number of volunteers each month. Once you arrive to the site, locate the Street Project table to sign in and listen to a brief orientation. If you can’t make it to the project, we request you to let us know at the EARLIEST opportunity to open the spot for another volunteer and to ensure that the residents receive their meals. If you have any questions, please use the comments when you sign up.
Choose your event by cause:
University Soup Kitchen
University Soup Kitchen is Street Project's longest running volunteer opportunity. Volunteers serve a wholesome, freshly made meal each Saturday in a respectful atmosphere. The kitchen provides a welcoming place of respite for guests and offers vital social services to those in need.
Kids & Teens
Helping Hands provides two opportunities: 1) With Publicolor, volunteers are paired with middle and high school students to repaint and revitalize public school buildings. Or 2) volunteers can support Change for Kids’ mission to invest in NYC public elementary schools in underserved communities.
