hand-delivered meals to homebound and elderly
September 24, 2011Free
Volunteers hand-deliver hot & cold meals to home-bound seniors, who look forward to these much-needed personal visits. Paired in twos, we deliver meals on foot from Time Square’s Encore Senior Center, using a hand-driven cart. The routes are short, usually no more than 10 to 15 stops, and there is no need to use other modes of transportation. To ensure that walking doesn’t ruin your rest of the Saturday/weekend, please wear comfortable shoes & weather-appropriate clothing. Upon arrival, volunteers who have signed up through Street Project will meet at the first table to the left and will be given a brief orientation before going on deliveries.

University Soup Kitchen
University Soup Kitchen is Street Project's longest running volunteer opportunity. Volunteers serve a wholesome, freshly made meal each Saturday in a respectful atmosphere. The kitchen provides a welcoming place of respite for guests and offers vital social services to those in need.
Kids & Teens
Helping Hands provides two opportunities: 1) With Publicolor, volunteers are paired with middle and high school students to repaint and revitalize public school buildings. Or 2) volunteers can support Change for Kids’ mission to invest in NYC public elementary schools in underserved communities.
