Painting MS 306 with Publicolor
November 21, 2015Free
Please join ‘Street Project’ and ‘Publicolor’ in painting MS 306 in Brooklyn. You will be matched with teenagers. You do NOT need to know anything about painting at all. We will teach everything you need to know.
This is a golden opportunity for both volunteers and students to share in an unforgettable and unique dialogue that we view as informal mentoring. Since we are teaching good work habits, we ask that you model excellent behavior and a strong work ethic with our students.
We will provide lunch. However, in order to help defray the cost of lunch we ask that the volunteers donate $10 per person (please bring cash). Thanks in advance!
Please wear painting clothes and shoes. We use odor-free latex paint that will wash out of your hair and skin but not out of your clothes. We will provide gloves for painting.
Meeting Time: 9:45 am (until 2:45 with lunch)
Meeting Place: MS 306 at 970 Vermont Street, Brooklyn, NY 11207
Take the 3 or 4 train to Pennsylvania Avenue; walk South 6 blocks on Pennsylvania Avenue to Wortman Avenue and turn left. The school is in 2 blocks on Vermont Street. [Alternatively take the L train to New Lots Avenue and first walk 7 blocks East to Pennsylvania.]
Choose your event by cause:
University Soup Kitchen
University Soup Kitchen is Street Project's longest running volunteer opportunity. Volunteers serve a wholesome, freshly made meal each Saturday in a respectful atmosphere. The kitchen provides a welcoming place of respite for guests and offers vital social services to those in need.
Kids & Teens
Helping Hands provides two opportunities: 1) With Publicolor, volunteers are paired with middle and high school students to repaint and revitalize public school buildings. Or 2) volunteers can support Change for Kids’ mission to invest in NYC public elementary schools in underserved communities.
